August 1933

Warsaw, Górki. Bruno Schulz meets Zofia Nałkowska.

Bruno Schulz comes to Warsaw* to meet Zofia Nałkowska*. We know about meetings that took place both in Warsaw and in the Nałkowskis family house in Górki near Wołomin. In an entry of 10 September 1933 Zofia Nałkowska mentions Schulz’s visit and also her feelings towards him. “But my fidelity no longer applies to Miroslav Krleža1, only to Bruno Schulz. I saw him in August for two days in Warsaw and here in Górki. I’m surrounded by his letters, from which I draw a lot of approval for myself. And his drawings! This is not a great joy, but a quiet, sad happiness”2. (mr) (transl. mw)
