(A) Lviv. In the daily Chwila there is a press release entitled “WIZO – Borysław”, informing the public about a reading by Bruno Schulz.
(B) Warsaw. The Polish Literary Union issues Bruno Schulz a membership certificate on the occasion of his trip to France.
(A) The note refers to a reading entitled “E. M. Lilien”, delivered “recently” at the WIZO headquarters in Borysław.

(B) Witold Gombrowicz is helping Schulz in his efforts to obtain a certificate. In a letter from May, he declares to his friend: “I will call [Stella] Olgierd to have her send you a declaration form to PenCl”. A Pen Club official “made a mistake in the address, and as a result she had to send the Penclub form again”, as Gombrowicz reported. Ultimately, the certificate was delivered to Schulz in the first days of July, quickly enough to be used in application for a passport and presented to the County Office in Drohobych. The game was probably about obtaining a concessionary passport, which was cheaper than a tourist one. Gombrowicz advised Schulz not to follow this path. “As for the passport”, he wrote, “I don’t think it is worth trying to get a discount, because the costs of applications and various stamps are quite a significant sum and as far as I know, a passport to France costs only a little more”.
