Vienna. Before leaving for Marienbad, Bruno Schulz checks out of the accommodation at Seegasse 27.

Schulz’s sister Hanna* and her son Ludwik* leave with him 1. Apparently, while away from Vienna*, Schulz is not entitled to register (such a solution probably makes it easier for the authorities to control the number of refugees staying in the capital). It is also possible that the premises belong to the city and during Schulz’s stay at the resort* (from August 7* to September 24, 1915*) they are assigned to another person performing some public function 2. This would also explain why, after returning from Marienbad, Schulz is registered in the neighbouring tenement house at Seegasse 28. Possibly, as a medic of the Academic Aid Legion, he has a rental right in the IX district of the city and receives accommodation for a temporary stay ex officio. In the period from November 30, 1914 to December 15, 1915, he moves four times, but remains invariably in the Alsergrund district, in tenement houses located next to each other (Seegasse 3, Seegasse 27, Seegasse 28, Elisabethpromenade 29). It is also possible that he has influential friends in Vienna or some relative helps him find accommodation. If he does have the status of a person holding a public function, he gets a two-month sick leave to stay in Marienbad.
