Zakopane. Bruno Schulz leaves Zakopane.
Schulz returns to Drogobych* from Zakopane*, where he has rested at least since 4 January*. As she writes in a letter to Maria Kasprowiczowa*, the departure seemed premature and it interrupted the acquaintance that they had just established. “Forced to depart early, I left Zakopane with regret that I was not allowed to go deeper into the agreement that was so interesting for me. Almost nothing of the important things that are pressing on the lips has been said”1. Schulz’s departure is noted in Zofia Nałkowska’s* Diaries, the author of which Schulz spent a lot of time with in Zakopane. “Bruno Schulz left yesterday, and left behind a lot of empty space, though so small. I respond to his most vivid needs, I expose myself to his adoration – grateful and kind; I do not forbid him to dedicate himself. But his truth about me is one, and mine another”2. (mr) (transl. mw)
