Warsaw. Bruno Schulz visits Adam Ważyk.
Schulz arrives in Warsaw* to meet Zofia Nałkowska and to ask her to evaluate the manuscript of his debut book of fiction. The day before the appointment with Nałkowska, he meets Adam Ważyk*, whom he first met in 1927 in Zakopane*, and leaves him the manuscript to read. The text made such a great impression on Ważyk that he encouraged Schulz to show it to Zofia Nałkowska. Years later, in his book Kwestia gustu [The Matter of Taste], Ważyk describes this event as follows: “For several years I had had no message from Schulz, until one morning when he phoned me and came carrying a manuscript of his book of fiction. He came to Warsaw to Nałkowska: he was supposed to report to her the next day; he left his manuscript with me for 24 hours to assess whether it is worth going to Nałkowska. The next day I urged him to visit her, and I was not sure if the timid Schulz would not turn around halfway”1. (mr) (transl. mw)
