Drohobych. Accident at the “Urania” cinema, where Bruno Schulz is a frequent guest.
The projection machine explodes during a screening in the cinema run by Izydor Schulz. As a result of the explosion, parts of the projector are launched into the street with great force. Among the injured are mainly customers of the Schönholz Café and a passer-by: Zygmunt Schutzmann Steif. According to the first press report, the “poor merchant” Steif has died as a result of his injuries, leaving his wife and three children “destitute”1. A week later, a correction to this information appears: “Mr Zygmunt Schutzmann Steif has been badly wounded, but not killed. Mr Steif is in hospital treatment”2. (ts) (transl. mw)
