13 July 1935, Saturday

Drohobych. Bruno Schulz writes to Zenon Waśniewski about the upcoming trip to Zakopane and the relationship with Józefina Szelińska.

The departure scheduled for the beginning of July is delayed. Schulz informs Waśniewski that together with Józefina Szelińska they will leave the following week. They plan to settle somewhere outside Zakopane*, “in Kościelska, in Cyryla or in Jaszczurówka”1. Schulz encourages the publisher of “Kamena” to come, again referring to his acquaintance with Witkacy: “I will introduce you to very interesting people, especially to St. Ig. Witkiewicz. I hope we will have a good time”2. During his vacation, Schulz intends to work, so he warns Waśniewski that he may have to spend part of the day in the company of Józefina Szelińska. Responding to “beautiful and kind wishes” regarding his relationship with Szelińska, Schulz writes: “You imagine it too romantically. I have known my fiancée for 3 years, we got closer 2 years ago and we spend several weeks together from time to time because we do not live in the same place”3. (ts) (transl. mw)
