Drohobych. Bruno Schulz applies to the Board of the Lviv School District for a leave to study for the exam in teaching drawing.

Schulz has to pass a subject exam in order to qualify for further work in a middle school. He asks for a leave from March 15 to March 30. At that time, drawing lessons at the Władysław Jagiełło Middle School would not be conducted.

Schulz motivates his request for a leave with a heavy workload of 35 hours a week, which prevents him from consolidating the knowledge he has acquired. Perhaps he deliberately does not use the word “acquired” to give the impression of a person who is almost prepared, but needs some time to systematise their knowledge1.

On March 14, the school board would send the document, which would be collected by the school district on March 17.
